Discount Calculator
Calculate sale prices, savings, discount percentages, and original prices.
How to Use Our Discount Calculator
Choose the calculation you need and select your preferred currency. The currency selector changes how monetary results are displayed; it does not perform currency conversions.
Enter the requested values and select Calculate. The calculator will show the result together with the calculation used to obtain it.
You can calculate a discounted price, find the percentage discount between an original and sale price, or determine the original price from a sale price and discount.
How the Discount Calculator Works
To calculate a discount, multiply the original price by the discount percentage divided by 100.
For example, suppose an item costs $100 and has a 20% discount.
The discount amount is:
$100 × 20 ÷ 100 = $20
Subtract the discount from the original price:
$100 − $20 = $80
Therefore, the final sale price is $80 and you save $20.

Discount Calculator Formulas
Different discount questions require different formulas. Use the appropriate formula depending on which values you already know.
Calculate a Discounted Price
To calculate the amount saved:
Discount Amount = Original Price × (Discount Percentage ÷ 100)
Then calculate the final price:
Final Price = Original Price − Discount Amount
For example, for a $250 product with a 30% discount:
$250 × 30 ÷ 100 = $75
$250 − $75 = $175
The final price is $175, and the total savings are $75.
Find the Discount Percentage
If you know the original price and sale price, you can calculate the percentage discount.
Use:
Discount % = (Original Price − Sale Price) ÷ Original Price × 100
For example:
Original price: $80
Sale price: $60
($80 − $60) ÷ $80 × 100 = 25%
Therefore, the discount is 25%.
Find the Original Price
Sometimes you know the sale price and percentage discount but not the original price.
Use:
Original Price = Sale Price ÷ (1 − Discount ÷ 100)
For example, suppose the sale price is $90 after a 25% discount.
$90 ÷ (1 − 25 ÷ 100) = $120
Therefore, the original price was $120.
Calculate Successive Discounts
Two successive discounts should not normally be added together.
Instead, apply the first discount to the original price and then apply the second discount to the reduced price.
For example:
Original price: $100
First discount: 20%
Additional discount: 10%
After the first discount:
$100 × 0.80 = $80
Apply the additional 10% discount:
$80 × 0.90 = $72
The final price is therefore $72.
How Our Discount Calculator Handles Multiple Discounts
Successive discounts are applied one after another.
For example, a 20% discount followed by a 10% discount does not equal a 30% discount.
Starting with $100:
$100 → 20% off → $80 → 10% off → $72
The total savings are $28, so the effective discount is:
28%
This happens because the second discount is calculated from the already discounted price rather than the original price.
The general formula for two successive discounts is:
Final Price = Original Price × (1 − Discount 1 ÷ 100) × (1 − Discount 2 ÷ 100)

Discount Calculator Frequently Asked Questions
How Do I Calculate 20% Off a Price?
Multiply the original price by 20 divided by 100 to find the discount amount. Then subtract that amount from the original price.
For example, 20% off $100 gives a $20 discount and a final price of $80.
How Do I Calculate the Percentage Discount?
Subtract the sale price from the original price. Divide the difference by the original price and multiply by 100.
How Do I Find the Original Price Before a Discount?
Divide the sale price by one minus the discount percentage expressed as a decimal.
For example, if an $80 sale price represents a 20% discount:
$80 ÷ 0.80 = $100
Are Two Discounts Added Together?
No. Successive percentage discounts are normally applied one after another.
For example, 20% off followed by another 10% off produces an effective discount of 28%, not 30%.
Does the Currency Selector Convert Currencies?
No. The currency selector only changes how monetary values are displayed. It does not convert an amount from one currency to another.
Can I Use Decimal Prices?
Yes. You can enter decimal prices such as 19.99, 49.95, or 125.50.
